The XML file stores each file's name and absolute path, the latter of which doubles as a unique identifier. The files do not have to be PHP scripts; they can be images, videos, PDFs, and so on.
Plus, Creative Commons licensing information for individual files (among other metadata) can easily be embedded in the XML database.
In the XML database, simply add the attribute cc-license to a node, along with a value corresponding to the type of license. You may also add the attributes author (corresponding to the image's author) and date (corresponding to the date of creation).
With a few simple function calls, you can automatically retrieve and display metadata (like title, description, keywords, etc.) for any file on your server, which is useful for style/content separation in PHP pages, or for media cataloging purposes.
